A holistic way to improve your health
Bowenwork is a gentle, effective form of bodywork used primarily to reset the tension patterns in your body which cause pain, discomfort, or difficulty in your daily life. Through the use of gentle, rolling moves over muscles, tendons and joints, Bowenwork uses the body's innate ability to heal itself by simply sending a message to the brain through the connective (fascial) tissue and nervous system to make the necessary "corrections" in the body.
Bowenwork was developed in the 1950's by the late Thomas Bowen of Geelong, Australia. Bowen's approach was to reset the tension in certain muscles and muscle groups by using a unique type of stretch-and-roll-move, and then pausing between sets of moves to give the body time to begin its response. A full body response is almost always felt.
Bowenwork involves gentle, yet powerful movements over soft tissue structures. These gentle and precise movements create a muscular release. The impulses created from each Bowen touch sends a "message" through your nervous system to the brain, stimulating the body to reset, recharge and heal itself.
Bowenwork procedures are done through lightweight clothing on a massage table and takes from 30 minutes to 60 minutes, depending upon how your body responds. Each session is individualized and tailored to obtain the most effective results in the shortest amount of time. Tom Bowen is known for his "less is more" approach. You may find profound changes occur in your body with very little work.
Each Bowenwork session is individualized to meet your needs according to where your body is unbalanced. Sometimes a practitioner will focus on a specific area, but most often, the body is treated as a whole, so that all systems are affected to create balance.
Most importantly, Bowenwork is holistic - so this is not a treatment of symptoms. The practitioner will do as minimal work possible as to not overload your body. The point in receiving therapy is to heal, not to become dependent on the work.
Most clients enjoy the deep sense of relaxation following the Bowen session, often commenting on the "good sleep" they experience in the nights following a treatment! Clients are often surprised that other pains or symptoms they had (and didn't mention to the practioner), are gone or greatly reduced. Bowen practioners love hearing the amazing client stories!
While Bowenwork doesn't treat specific diseases or conditions, clients often report a better sense of well-being, less pain, more mobility, flexibilty and other amazing, but interesting outcomes!
